Common Electrical Problems We Repair

If an electrical problem happens suddenly, there’s a chance it’s been developing slowly over time. There could be subtle signs indicating an issue that you may not have noticed. Any of the following issues are an opportunity to get in touch with a professional electrician.

Circuit Breaker Keeps Tripping

Circuit breakers are designed to disconnect power under certain electrical conditions. If the same breaker keeps tripping, there may be excessive electrical load, a short circuit, damaged wiring or other problems. Your electrician will need to carry out fault finding to figure out what’s tripping the breaker.

Tripping Safety Switch

Safety switches are designed to detect electrical leakage in a circuit and cut the power immediately. They’re crucial in protecting people and property. If your safety switch keeps tripping, don’t keep flipping it back up. An electrician needs to investigate where the current is leaking.

Power Points Aren’t Working

Power points can be the lifeblood of a property, so it’s frustrating when they stop working. It could be a circuit issue or a problem with the outlet, or there could be a deeper underlying problem for us to investigate. Our electricians will test the circuit and isolate the origin of the power point fault.

Flickering Lights

A flickering light could be an issue with the globe, but there could be underlying problems. Loose connections, faulty switches, damaged fittings, or wiring problems could all be at fault.
Change the globe yourself – if the problem persists, get in touch with Voltora Industries.

You’ve Lost Power to Part of the Property

This is a job for a professional electrician. If one area of the property has power but others don’t, the affected circuit needs to be traced down and the problem identified. It could be down to a number of issues with the electrical installation, so fault-finding is required.

Buzzing, Heat or Burning Smell

Never ignore any of these. Buzzing, heat, discolouration, burning smells – something is going wrong and electrical repairs are required. We’ll be able to find the fault, analyse how serious it is and land on the best path forward.

Why Does My Power Keep Tripping?

"Power tripping" is one of the most common electrical problems experienced at residential and commercial properties, but there isn't one universal cause. The circuit breaker or safety switch is responding to something occurring within the electrical system. Your electrician needs to determine what that is. Here are some common causes:

ceiling fan stuck

Overloaded Electrical Circuits.

When a circuit is asked to handle more electrical demand than it’s designed for, it becomes overloaded and your circuit breakers trip.

Faulty Appliances or Equipment.

When you turn on a faulty appliance or piece of equipment, it can trigger a safety switch or circuit breaker.

Wiring or Connection Faults.

Damaged wiring, deteriorated connections and other electrical defects can also cause protective devices to trip. Do not DIY these under any circumstances – get an electrical professional in.

Switchboard Issues.

Faulty components in your switchboard could be at the root of the problem. We’ll identify this and recommend whether a switchboard upgrade is necessary.

After the first hour, labour is $148.50 inc GST per hour, with materials/parts extra. We’ll provide you with an idea of total cost once we know what the issue is.

Why Does My Power Keep Tripping?

Power can trip because of overloaded circuits, faulty appliances, wiring problems, electrical leakage or other faults. Electrical fault-finding is often required to identify the actual cause.

Why Are My Power Points Not Working?

The problem may be with the power point itself or with the circuit supplying it. A tripped protective device, loose connection, wiring problem or another fault can also cause outlets to stop working. Our electricians will test the circuit and locate the fault.

Intermittent faults can require additional investigation, but we usually get to the bottom of them. The more information you provide about when and how the fault occurs, the quicker we can generally solve the problem.
